Alternative cure contains lots of measures from diet and exercise to mental conditioning and lifestyle changes. There are many alternative therapies exist, for example, yoga, acupuncture, biofeedback, chiropractic cure, guided imagery, hypnosis, aromatherapy, relaxation, massage, herbal remedies, etc.

The following supplements are used in alternative cures to treat diabetes:
- Magnesium. It improves glucose control in diabetics. A deficit of magnesium is associated with insulin secretion abnormalities and with diabetes complications.
- Chromium. It is also used for improving diabetes control. In spite of several studies that support a role for chromium as beneficial in diabetes, at present there are no recommendations for its use in diabetes management.
- Vanadium. It increases a person’s sensitivity to insulin. However, there are no recommendations for its use by people with diabetes.

The following plant foods can help people with diabetes:

- Brewer’s yeast
- Okra
- Broccoli
- Sage 
- Fenugreek seeds
- Peas

The point is that all plant foods are rich in fiber that is very helpful for blood glucose control.

There are also many others herbs that being proposed for diabetes, like ginger, garlic, hawthorn, nettle and ginseng. But there are no clinical trials with promising results of them. Before taking any of these herbs, people with diabetes have to talk to their doctor.

The following substances are often used by people with diabetes for weight management:
- Chitosan
- Chromium
- Camsogia Garcinia
- Germander
- Pyruvate
- Sauropus androgynus
- Aristolochic acid
- Momordica charanta

Before herbal cure you should:
- Discuss any medications you use, including herbs, with your doctor before taking them.
- In case of appearance such side effects as vomiting, nausea, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, insomnia, diarrhea or skin rashes, stop taking the herbal product and see your doctor immediately.
- Don’t use preparations made with more than one herb.
- Avoid commercial claims of what herbal products can do. Search for scientific-based sources of information.
