Diabetes Symptoms

diabetes_symptomsGenerally, the symptoms of type 1 diabetes are obvious, but they are not obvious for type 2.  Many people with type 2 do not find they have diabetes until they begin to suffer from suffer from its complications like heart disease, stroke, blood vessel disease, blindness, kidney problems, skin ulcers, impotence or nerve trouble. 

The symptoms of type 1 diabetes are often slight, but they can become severe. They include:

- Extreme hunger
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Dry mouth
- Sickness and sometimes vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Unexplained weight loss, even though you eat enough
- Weak and tired feelings
- Blurred eyesight
- Irritability
- Heavy breathing
- Frequent infections of the skin, urinary tract or vagina
   Signs of an emergency with type 1 diabetes are following:
- Rapid breathing
- Confusion and shaking
- Abdominal pain
- Fruity smell of the breath
- Rarely loss of consciousness

The symptoms of type 2 diabetes vary person to person but include any type1 symptom, plus:

- Pain
- Cramping 
- Tingling
- Numbness in your feet
- Unusual drowsiness
- Dry, itchy skin
- Slow healing sores
- Poor skin turgor
- Cessation of menses
- Diarrhea
- Depression
